Green_David_web_RS_02252013Atrius Health is pleased to announce that David Green, MD has been named the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts (HCAM) 2016 “Physician of the Year.”

This honor is awarded to a physician or nurse practitioner who has demonstrated active involvement in the home health field. Dr. Green is being recognized for his dedication to caring for his Atrius Health patients in their homes and his work with the Emerson Hospital Home Care Department’s Chronic Lung Disease Program. This award is part of HCAM’s annual Innovation Showcase and STAR Award program.

“David truly embodies Atrius Health’s longstanding commitment of providing the right care to patients in the comfort of their homes. By fostering strong relationships with his patients and recognizing their needs, he consistently provides the compassionate and customized care we strive to deliver,” said Dr. Steven Strongwater, President and CEO of Atrius Health. “We offer our sincere congratulations to David for this honor and are thrilled to work with doctors who continuously raise the bar.”

Since joining Atrius Health in 2013, Dr. Green focuses on patients with COPD, asthma and those who need homecare. In addition, Dr. Green cares for Atrius Health patients admitted to skilled nursing facilities in the Concord area. Prior to joining the organization, Dr. Green in 1999 pioneered a Chronic Lung Disease program in partnership with Emerson Home Care to provide special training for home care nurses in COPD management after witnessing the frequency of patients readmitted to hospitals for COPD exacerbations. Patients in the program are seen at home by specially-trained nurses who know them well and are on staff 24/7, and then monitored by phone when they no longer require home visits. In a study documenting emergency department use and hospitalization during the six months prior and six months after program enrollment, patients saw approximately a 50 percent decrease in readmission rates, yielding significant savings for all patients. Over 17 years later, Dr. Green continues the program with nearly the same group on staff.

“It is an honor to have my work with Atrius Health and Emerson Hospital recognized by my peers,” says Dr. Green. “I was inspired to become a physician after a severe battle with pneumonia as a teenager, and I truly understand the difference quality, personalized medical care can make in a patient’s life. My greatest professional satisfaction comes from talking with my patients and helping them be more comfortable with their medical conditions.”

Dr. Green earned a bachelor of science from the University of Rochester and his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. He is a resident of Boston.
